NNPP Condemns Alleged Moves to Arrest Kano Governor’s Spokesperson Dawakin-Tofa
NNPP Condemns Alleged Harassment of Kano Governor’s Media Aide
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has strongly criticized ongoing efforts to arrest Mallam Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the Director-General of Media and Publicity for the Kano State Government.
In a statement released in Kano on Wednesday, NNPP National Publicity Secretary Ladipo Johnson alleged that the police, acting on directives from Abuja, continue to pursue Dawakin-Tofa despite a court injunction prohibiting such actions.
Johnson claimed the attempts to arrest Dawakin-Tofa stem from a petition purportedly filed by former Kano State Governor and APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, or individuals acting on his behalf.
The NNPP described the actions as a flagrant disregard for the rule of law and an abuse of power, noting that Dawakin-Tofa has gone into hiding to avoid what the party considers an unlawful arrest.
“This escalating situation in Kano, marked by abuse of power, intimidation, and harassment of state officials, is troubling and deeply regrettable,” Johnson stated. He questioned how a country that disregards the rule of law could attract foreign investors.
He further warned that continued defiance of the court’s injunction by the police damages the institution’s credibility and recalls the controversial actions during the Kano Emirate power struggle.
Johnson concluded by urging the ruling party to reflect on how these incidents tarnish its reputation, especially in Northern Nigeria, and called for an immediate cessation of actions undermining the state’s democratic governance..
