CUPP Accuses Wike of Plotting Lawmaker Ugochinyere’s Arrest
The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of orchestrating a plan to arrest Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives and spokesperson for the coalition.
In a statement released on Thursday, CUPP alleged that Wike’s actions are part of a larger scheme to intimidate and silence opposition voices critical of his administration.
CUPP claimed that security agencies have been pressured to act on politically motivated petitions to justify Ugochinyere’s arrest, a move the coalition says is designed to stifle dissent and suppress the voice of the opposition in the National Assembly.

The coalition described the alleged plot as “an attack on democracy” and called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and relevant authorities to intervene to uphold the rule of law and protect opposition lawmakers from harassment.
Ugochinyere, a vocal critic of Wike, has previously accused the minister of using his position to target political opponents. The CUPP reiterated its commitment to resisting what it termed “oppressive tactics” aimed at undermining democratic institutions in Nigeria.
